Cape Royal TrailPhoto Album: Cape Royal Pictures The view standing on the peninsula above Angels Window is stunning. The walk from the parking lot is on a paved path and is quite easy. Signs along the path suggest information about the surrounding scenery, plant and animal life. The walk out to the fenced perch above the window (arch) may be a bit intimidating as the ground drops away. The vistas are just as impressive, from a variety of points, without having to deal with the exposure on the pathway to the Angels Window perch. Vishnu Temple is the tall Rocky summit to the south and the mighty Colorado River can be seen to the southeast as well as the rapids created by Unkar Wash. Far to the south, the San Francisco Peaks tower above Flagstaff, Arizona. Another paved path leads to the west and looks out to Clear Creek as it winds between Towering Buttes. These two viewpoints together add up to just one mile (round trip) of level walking, mostly on paved path.
Cape Royal Trail - 3.5 miles north of the Grand Canyon Lodge at the North Rim is an intersection with Highway 67. The paved road bears east off of Highway 67 and travels through the forest to the east for 6 miles to another intersection. Turn right at this intersection toward the Walhalla Plateau and Greenland Lake, Vista Encantada, Cape Final and Cape Royal. Be sure to stop at Greenland Lake and take a short walk and don't miss the restored Salt Cabin on the southeast side of the Lake. The 17 mile drive to the south from the intersection will afford several pullout viewpoints, a picnic area and near the Cape Royal parking lot is an Anasazi Dwelling that has been preserved. Directions to the Grand Canyon North Rim - From Zion National Park, travel SR-9 to Mt. Carmel Jct., then turn south on US-89 to Kanab. There is only one stop light in Kanab; this is where US-89 changes to SR-89A. Fredonia, Arizona is just a few miles away, across the Utah - Arizona border. Take SR-89A to Jacob lake (36 miles), then take SR-67 to the Grand Canyon North Rim park entrance. North Rim Grand Canyon Location - The North Rim of the Grand Canyon is 85 miles from Mount Carmel Junction, which is located on the east side of Zion National Park. Many who visit the National Parks of Southern Utah add the North Rim of the Grand Canyon to their travel plans and those visiting the North Rim of the Grand Canyon often visit Zion National Park.
