"Canyoneering as a sport has grown in popularity from its initial onset many years ago altering the name to simply canyoneering now.
Backpacks, Stuff Bags, Kegs of all sizes for different equipment needs are now available that not only are tough and abrasion resistant, but float and also instantly drain out water that fills a pack when swimming through pools of water ever so present in canyons. Bags are now designed to stuff ropes and other bulky material for canyons and some are with mesh to drain when lifted out of water and others are created to float. Dry bags have become colorful, light and sturdy while descending and ascending devices remain classic for the most part. Different companies alter footwear and clothes for canyons upon demand. Zion National Park has a wealth of slot canyons but technical expertise is needed therefore months at least of training is required prior to exploring any slot canyon that does require more than the Zion Narrows. The Zion Narrows is for adults in good hiking shape that can endure hours of hiking in water so most of the visitors are young, youthful, active and strong.
Directions to Zion National Park
From the North: Travel I-15 south, past Beaver. exit on Hwy 20. Follow US-89 to Mount Carmel Junction. Take SR-9 to Zion's east entrance.
From Arizona: Travel US-89A through Fredonia, Arizona and Kanab Utah. Follow US-89 to Mount Carmel Junction. Take SR-9 to the east park entrance.
From the South: Travel I-15 north. Take exit 16 and travel through Hurricane to La Verkin. Continue on SR-9 to the south entrance of the park. SR-9 through Zion National Park is always open and is also called the Zion-Mt. Carmel Highway. See restrictions for RV's.

Lodging and services are available on the gorgeous east side of Zion National Park, where guests are close to Zion National Park (12 miles), Bryce Canyon National Park (60 miles), Cedar Breaks National Monument (45 miles), Coral Pink Sand Dunes (12 miles), and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon (85 miles). It's where city traffic is absent and the skies are bright and clean.
