East Rim Trail, Zion Park
The East Rim Trail is considered the Best Hike in all of Utah. This trail begins at the East Side of Zion Park, near the park entrance, just off Scenic Byway 9 and ends in Zion Canyon.

Hiking in Zion Park
The Park is divided into three sections: Zion Mt. Carmel Hwy (Scenic Byway 9) Zion Canyon, and the Primitive Kolob Section

Hiking along the Zion Mt. Carmel Hwy
Pa'rus Trail: Located at Canyon Junction. This is a very easy paved trail, 3.5 miles, that follows the Virgin River from Canyon Junction to the Zion Museum. The trail continues as far as the South Campground where the Nature Center and Jr. Ranger Program are Located, then continues to the to Watchman Campground. Pa'rus is a Paiute word meaning "bubbling, tumbling water." Along this trail Oak Creek and Pine Creek are crossed. This is a good hike for those who want to bike, push a stroller or use a wheel chair. At Canyon Junction is a Zion Canyon pick up and drop off and a small parking area. Canyon Junction is the intersection to Zion Canyon and Scenic Byway 9 (Zion Mt. Carmel Hwy).

Canyon Overlook Trail: This is a mile roundtrip, an easier trail (163 ft ascent) ending in a spectacular view of lower Zion Canyon and Pine Creek Canyon. See top photo. Allow one hour for this hike. The trail head for the Canyon Overlook Trail is located immediately east of the 1.1 mile long tunnel. This is an excellent family hike.

East Rim Trail: An incredible hike, and said to be the most scenic in all of Zion Park and is on many list as the best hike in all of Utah. With all the competition in Utah that is saying a great deal! The 17.9 miles starts at the east entrance to the park and travels through the incredible Slot Canyons of Echo Canyon, then up to the view from Observation Point, finally ending at the weeping rock area in Zion Canyon. Begin this hike early in the morning since the start of the hike is hot and sandy. Bring plenty of water!

Zion Park Hiking Tips: Avoid hiking in the hottest part of the day when the sun is directly overhead. It is always a good idea to bring plenty of water, snacks, sunscreen, bug repellant and wear a hat. Keep it light though, remember you have to carry all you bring up the trails.
