Cedar Breaks National Monument is spectacular! It has been said that “if Cedar Breaks were anywhere but in this region, it would be picked as one of the world’s greatest scenic wonders.” Located in Dixie National Forest is the Cedar Breaks National Monument, called “Circle of Painted Cliffs” by early Indians resembles Bryce Canyon in that its hoodoos do have much in common with each other. Later it was renamed when early settlers incorrectly referred to the Junipers as Cedars.

Meadows and a forest of Pines, Spruce and Quaking aspens adorn the monument. A five mile road will guide you through the parks four view points. The amphitheater spans three miles across and 2,500 ft deep, the view is breathtaking in its magnificence.

Due to the high elevation, 10,333 ft,, snow results in closure during the cooler months of the year, but due to these high elevations Cedar Breaks offers a cool Summer temperature as an excape from the hot desert below. Long ago however, the area where Cedar Breaks now stands was not the highest point, but rather it was the lowest and the bottom of a great ancient lake. Over time the uplifting occured to form the goregous amphitheater you see today.

Scenic Byway 9 through Zion Park to Mt. Carmel Jct. is open year round. The Road to Bryce Canyon is open year round as well.
